May 5th, 2026: Metal Shark Delivers Eight High-Speed Interceptors to Jamaica Defence Force

Louisiana-based boatbuilder Metal Shark recently delivered and commissioned the first eight of twenty-two 36-foot high-speed interceptor vessels for the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) Coast Guard, marking a major milestone in an ongoing fleet modernization effort aimed at strengthening Jamaica’s maritime security capabilities.

The remaining fourteen vessels are currently in production at Metal Shark’s Jeanerette, Louisiana production facility and scheduled for phased delivery.

Based on Metal Shark’s proven Fearless platform, the 36-foot interceptors are purpose-built for high-tempo operations in the Caribbean environment. Each vessel features an advanced twin-stepped SVVT (stepped vee, ventilated tunnel) running surface by Michael Peters Yacht Design, delivering exceptional speed, efficiency, and handling in offshore conditions. Powered by triple 300-horsepower Yamaha four-stroke outboards, the vessels achieve speeds in excess of 55 knots.

Outfitted with a full suite of mission systems, the boats include Furuno navigation and radar packages, FLIR thermal imaging, and Ullman shock-mitigating seating to enhance crew safety and endurance during extended operations.

“This delivery reflects the strength of our partnership with the Jamaica Defence Force and our shared commitment to maritime security in the region,” said Metal Shark CEO Chris Allard. “These vessels are designed and built to perform in demanding conditions, and we’re proud to see them already operating in support of critical national missions.”

“Built with speed, agility, and durability in mind, these vessels are designed to meet the demanding operational environment of the Caribbean,” said Henry Irizarry, Metal Shark’s Senior Vice President of International Business Development. “Whether conducting coastal patrols, intercepting illicit trafficking, supporting search and rescue operations, or safeguarding Jamaica’s maritime borders, these platforms will give the Coast Guard the capability to respond rapidly and effectively.”

The contract, established in 2023, includes vessel delivery as well as comprehensive operator and maintenance training to ensure long-term mission readiness. With more vessels already in production, the JDF program underscores Metal Shark’s ability to deliver proven, high-performance platforms on schedule, already underway and operating where it matters most.
